Three weeks after winning its first Northern Virginia A-Team title, Evergreen Country Club of Haymarket also claimed the Washington Metropolitan Golf Association Senior Team title.
Evergreen is just the second club to win both titles in the same year. Army Navy, which has won 21 of the 50 WMGA Senior Team championships, swept both the Northern Virginia A-Team and WMGA Seniors in 1978, ’82, and ’90.
Five players from Evergreen contributed to both titles. The seniors, age 55-and-over, were captained by Floyd Foley and used 19 players who contributed during the championship run, which included wins over Congressional (round robin), International (quarterfinals), and Beaver Creek (semifinals).
