Durant, Thunder rolling toward playoffs

Sports Illustrated’s NBA preview said to pencil in the Oklahoma City Thunder for the playoffs — in 2010-11.

Time to get out an eraser.

The Thunder are making noise in the Western Conference right now, and the future is today with Kevin Durant.

“We’re all young, and we want to win right away,” Durant said in SI’s piece. “But you have to go through the ups and downs. We can’t rush this process.”

Yet the Thunder might win 50 games; that doesn’t just happen to a plucky group of youngsters.

As for Durant, let’s stop with calling him the NBA’s next elite talent. Even if there’s no chance he steals the title from LeBron James, he needs to be in the discussion for NBA MVP.

And the Thunder need more nationally televised games. If Durant and Oklahoma City are too good to miss, they’re certainly too good to wait for.
