NFL analysts sound off on their thoughts of the Redskins’ season outlook

The Redskins start the season this afternoon against the Giants and Joe Buck, Troy Aikman and Pam Oliver will handle the broadcast for FOX.

Redskins Radio is ready to go with Larry Michael, Sonny Jurgensen, Sam Huff and Rick “Doc” Walker calling all the action on ESPN 980AM/Redskins Radio.

Today at noon, Kevin Sheehan, the host of the popular Redskins Tailgate Show, will be joined by a cast of thousands of people getting fans ready for the opener on the road at Giants Stadium.

The Junkies have their “Unofficial Pregame Show” on 106.7 FM The Fan starting at 3 p.m.

CSN will have their award winning Redskins Kickoff Show at noon with Chick Hernandez, Trevor Matich, and Kelli Johnson joining the gang from Giant Stadium. They will be joined by Brian Mitchell for Redskins Postgame Live after the game.

So what do some of the top analysts think about the Redskins? I asked three key men about their thoughts:

NBC analyst Tony Dungy »  “I think that Redskins have made some very wise moves on defense. Giving defensive coordinator Greg Blache talented players like free agent DT Albert Haynesworth and first round draft choice LB/DE Brian Orakpo to go with an already gifted group will help the Redskins keep games close no matter who they are playing. If those two guys play up to their abilities and the rest of coach Blache’s gang play up to their capabilities then Washington could have a truly dominating defense.”

ESPN Monday Night Football analyst Jon Gruden »  “I like what the Redskins did on defense but I really think that they are being overlooked as a playoff team. I think that Jason Campbell being in coach Jim Zorn’s system a second year will pay huge dividends this year. I think that Malcolm Kelly will become the go to guy that they hoped he could be and that key players like Clinton Portis, Santana Moss and Chris Cooley will all have good years. There is no reason that they can’t contend for the division title or make it to the playoffs.”

FOX Sports analyst Michael Strahan » “I like what the Redskins have done on defense and the key to me is their offensive line. If they stay healthy then the Skins will have a good year. Look, everyone in the East has problems. The Giants really don’t have a go-to receiver for Eli Manning. The Eagles have depth issues on defense and the loss of Jim Johnson will hurt them. Then the Cowboys have do not have a star receiver and there are some holes in their secondary. So while I still think the East is the best division in football, everyone has issues.”
