Redskins notes and analysis 10/15/10

1. LB Rocky McIntosh (concussion) did not do any work today and will see a doctor Saturday or Sunday to see if he’ll be cleared to play. He’s already been checked out by a team doctor, but must also see a neutral doctor.

2.    Though McIntosh has not participated in a full workout this week, he did take part in a walk-through on Wednesday as well as the one in the airport hangar on Thursday and he’s also been able to work out. So if he’s cleared, he does have a chance to play.

3.    Talked about this yesterday, but if he doesn’t play, then Perry Riley should be active for the second time this season. But as to who would start for McIntosh, it all depends. I could see three guys replacing him: Riley in a base 3-4; H.B. Blades in the nickel and Reed Doughty in the dime package.

4.    LT Trent Williams (knee) was fine today and coach Mike Shanahan said he should be “good to go” Sunday. Don’t expect Kyle Shanahan to alter his game plan based on having two tackles with possibly gimpy knees. “It’s a position you expect them to play injured at,” Kyle Shanahan said. “If you don’t, you can’t get through the year. It’s very rare a lineman is going to be healthy. So if they’re on the field it’s no concern to me because I consider them 100 percent if they’re out there.”

5.    The Redskins talked about how athletic Green Bay’s front was; the Colts have a speedy one as well. “Indy is very fast, as fast as a defense can be,” Kyle Shanahan said. “They beat you with speed and they beat you with stunts.”

6.    That means the Redskins cutback runs could have some problems. The line is not cohesive at all yet. Ryan Torain had a tough game vs. Green Bay, but too often he was having to cut 3-4 yards deep in the backfield; some of his best runs gained no yards.

7.    Still not sure on if DL Albert Haynesworth will play. He did work today. But the Redskins want to make sure he’s in good enough shape to play, both mentally and physically. Part of me wonders if they want to make sure he has a good enough grasp of the game plan as well.

8.    Update on Anthony Galea; apparently no athletes will be charged with criminal activity. Good news for Redskins WR Santana Moss.
9.    This week’s Redskins Mailbag. Talking about Donovan McNabb’s short throws; Fred Davis’ role and more.

10.    The Colts injury report: RB Joseph Addai (neck); LB Gary Brackett (groin), RB Donald Brown (hamstring), WR Austin Collie (foot), WR Pierre Garcon (hamstring), WR Anthony Gonzalez (ankle), RB Mike Hart (hip), T Charlie Johnson (foot) and DB Jacob Lacey (foot) are questionable.

11.    Brackett, Brown, Gonzalez, Johnson and Lacey did not practice. Brackett and Johnson are starters.
