A sweet Wizards’ NCAA tourney connection

Washington Wizards assistant coach Randy Wittman isn’t about to let his son’s head swell just because he’s in the Sweet 16.

“[He] probably has a little bit better range than I did, but he still hasn’t beat me in horse,” said Wittman about his son Ryan, a senior forward for surprising Cornell.

Wittman, who won a national title in 1981 with Indiana, will attend the Big Red’s game vs. Kentucky Thursday night in Syracuse.

“To watch your son do what he did is pretty special, and for the team,” he said, “it just shows you what can happen when you believe in yourself and have great confidence in what you do.”

Just beware of the 14-bedroom house where all the players live.

“I don’t venture in that house very often,” he said, “and I try to keep my wife away from it because I don’t want her to see what’s going on in there.”
