D.C. United loses Cronin, wins another preseason match

D.C. United won its second contest of the preseason on Wednesday, a 4-0 victory in a 60-minute match against Florida International in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. But earlier in the day the team lost goalkeeper Steve Cronin to a wrist injury, a casualty that will put the team’s plans in front of the net in flux, as Bill Hamid has yet to fully return. Hamid is slated to be fully recovered from shoulder surgery before the regular season begins, but for now United will need to get the most from trialists Chase Harrison and Joe Willis.

Speaking of trialists, Charlie Davies did not play the afternoon scrimmage after logging the most minutes of any field player in Monday’s game against the Canadian u-20s. Stephen King, Yang Men, Brandon Barklage and Branko Boskovic scored the goals.
