Democratic convention caucuses omit ‘under God’ while reciting Pledge of Allegiance

At least two caucuses during the Democratic National Convention omitted the words “under God” while reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, according to the Washington Times.

“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,” delegate AJ Durrani said at the start of the convention’s Muslim Delegates and Allies Assembly on Tuesday.

David Brody of the Christian Broadcasting Network tweeted this week that the Pledge of Allegiance was also altered to omit “under God” during an LGBTQ Caucus meeting Tuesday.

“NEW VIDEO: At the #DemocraticNationalConvention , LGBT Caucus purposely leaves out the words, “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance. Watch. This now makes twice that two key constituencies of the Democratic Party have done this. See my earlier tweet about DNC Muslim Caucus,” Brody tweeted Wednesday.

California Sen. Kamala Harris accepted her nomination as Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s running mate Wednesday evening.

“We are a nation that’s grieving — grieving the loss of life, the loss of jobs, the loss of opportunities, the loss of normalcy, and yes, the loss of certainty. And while this virus touches us all, let’s be honest. It is not an equal-opportunity offender. Black, Latino, and indigenous people are suffering and dying disproportionately. This is not a coincidence. It is the effect of structural racism,” she said during the speech.

“It is truly an honor to be speaking with you,” she also said. “That I am here tonight is a testament to the dedication of generations before me, women and men who believed so fiercely in the promise of equality, liberty, and justice for all.”

The convention will wrap up on Thursday evening with speeches scheduled for Biden, New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
