Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo apologized to Rep. Debbie Dingell after President Trump suggested Dingell’s deceased husband may be in hell.
Bartiromo interviewed the Michigan Democrat on Thursday morning, in part to discuss Trump’s behavior at a rally in the state on Wednesday. Trump recreated a phone call he had with Dingell after her husband died in February and joked that the late Rep. John Dingell might be “looking up.”
“Congresswoman, I’m sorry about this that happened last night,” Bartiromo said. “It was so unnecessary. How are you feeling?”
“I’m back doing my job because that’s what I gotta do,” Dingell responded. “It was just a hurtful shot.”
Dingell had responded to the president on Twitter Wednesday after his rally, posting: “Mr. President, let’s set politics aside. My husband earned all his accolades after a lifetime of service. I’m preparing for the first holiday season without the man I love. You brought me down in a way you can never imagine and your hurtful words just made my healing much harder.”
