More people trust governors over Trump on coronavirus

More people trust their governors over President Trump in handling the pandemic, according to a new survey.

The NBC News/Survey Monkey poll, taken from June 29-July 7, also found that far more people are concerned about the economy than COVID-19.

By 55%-43%, people disapprove of Trump’s handling of the federal government’s response to the coronavirus. They approve of the way their governors have handled the pandemic 60%-37%.

Respondents appear to be sending mixed messages on the pandemic. When asked which issue mattered most right now, only 4% answered COVID-19. The top answer was the economy, with almost a third saying that it mattered most.

Yet, 56% said that the pandemic was more of a health crisis versus 43% who said it more of an economic crisis. Seven out of 10 respondents were either very worried or somewhat worried that themselves or a family member would be exposed to the virus. That is down from March when 8 in 10 said they were worried about being exposed.
