Two arrested after body found in bathtub filled with concrete

Two men were arrested Wednesday after a body encased in concrete was found in a bathtub in Hawaii.

U.S. Marshals and Los Angeles Police arrested Juan Tejedor Baron, 23, and Scott Hannon, 34, in Los Angeles after a manhunt that spanned into the mainland in connection to the homicide investigation, according to a news release.

Baron was located attempting to flee on a Greyhound bus headed to Mexico in Anaheim, California, hiding in a crawl space under a bench, and Hannon was located at an intersection in Inglewood, officials said.

On Monday, Honolulu police officers conducted a welfare check on the victim’s home on Hawaii Loa Ridge and spoke to Baron, who claimed to be in a relationship with the victim and also residing there, the press release said.

While at the home, officers said they saw a bathroom tub filled with a concrete-type substance and witnessed Barron leaving with Hannon. Coffee grounds were spread across the top of the concrete, likely to mask the smell of the decomposing body, Honolulu Police Lt. Deena Thoemmes told reporters.

The next day, homicide investigators recovered a body believed to be the victim’s in the tub, and a manhunt ensued for the suspects who were considered dangerous.

“The body was in the stand-alone tub, and it was in a state of decomposition once we chipped away at the concrete mixture,” Thoemmes said.
