Laura Ingraham: ‘Bring on the shutdown’

Fox News’ Laura Ingraham on Monday welcomed the possibility of a partial government shutdown amid media reports that some Republican lawmakers are considering legislation that would put off funding President Trump’s border wall until at least well into next year.

“The people in the White House cannot allow this,” Ingraham said of reports that Republicans are considering legislation to fund agencies at currentl levels, without any major changes, into next year, rather than passing appropriations bills. “They should not stand for this. Bring on the shutdown.

“For all the bluster and the worry about a government shutdown, we all should realize one thing: With the exception of tax reform which, frankly, could have been a lot better, and VA reform, which was good and needed, the government has essentially been shut down,” Ingraham said. “Shut down to the will of the American people for two years”

“The Republicans were elected to Congress to move the Trump agenda,” Ingraham said. “And in many cases, they have frustrated it. That is a fact.”

Trump has pushed for $5 billion to go toward a border wall in a massive spending bill, but Democratic lawmakers are opposed to giving him that level of funding.

Trump said he would be “proud” of a government shutdown over border security funding in a contentious meeting with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California last week.

“We need border security. That is what we are talking about, border security,” Trump said. “I am proud to shut down the government for border security.”

In the event of a partial government shutdown on Friday, only 25 percent of federal government funding would be impacted, as 75 percent of federal funding was approved earlier this year.
