Former acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Tom Homan isn’t expecting Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to purchase his new book.
Homan’s book, Defend the Border and Save Lives: Solving Our Most Important Humanitarian and Security Crisis, was released last month and intended to highlight that “illegal immigration is not a victimless crime,” he told the Daily Caller Wednesday.
“When you read this book, Nancy Pelosi is not going to like it, AOC is not going to like it. The people on the far left of the game are not going to like it,” he said. “I explain what [Border Patrol and ICE does], and most importantly, what they don’t do. They never arrested anybody in church. They never arrested in the hospital. But the Left wants to think that. It’s my intent to put the false narrative to bed.
“I’m a cop. I never thought I’d write a book, but I wrote it pretty much out of frustration,” he continued. “If they’ve seen what I’ve seen for 34 years, they’d understand why I’m emotional about this issue, and they would understand why I take the position that I do. They don’t understand what’s going on behind the scenes.”
Homan added that he dives into how the United States can fix the issue of illegal immigration in the book.
President Trump this week signed an executive order suspending new green cards to the country amid the coronavirus outbreak. The order comes as the administration launched a website that shows drone footage of the construction of the wall at the southern border, an effort to show citizens the president is sticking to his promise of having a secure border.
“President Trump is delivering on his promise to build a border wall system to secure the border,” acting CBP Commissioner Mark Morgan said in a statement. “Border security is national security, and a strong border wall system is critical to keeping our nation safe.”
