President Trump’s outgoing chief of staff Mick Mulvaney is currently self-quarantining after possibly being exposed to the coronavirus.
The former South Carolina congressman is staying at his home in the state after his niece had contact with the member of the Brazilian delegation who tested positive for the virus during the group’s trip to the United States last week. He tested negative but is still awaiting his niece’s test results, the Associated Press reported Tuesday.

White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham additionally told the Daily Caller that out of an “abundance of caution due to his proximity to the President, he’s teleworking.”
Brazilian leaders created a scare for American officials after one of President Jair Bolsonaro’s aides tested positive for the virus after meeting with Trump and Vice President Mike Pence earlier this month. Bolsonaro was also tested for the virus, but there were mixed reports on his results.
Trump named Mulvaney the U.S. special envoy to Northern Ireland earlier this month while tapping North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows as his successor. Meadows also has spent time in a self-quarantine after coming in contact with someone who had the virus at the Conservative Political Action Conference last month. A number of other members of Congress who were also at CPAC opted to isolate themselves as a precautionary measure. A number of White House leaders were at the conference as well, Mulvaney included.
