A video out of New York City shows a police officer getting attacked as violence and looting following what began as peaceful protests over George Floyd’s death continued.
The Sergeants Benevolent Association posted a video Monday night showing a group of people beating a police officer in the Bronx as the city saw another night of demonstrations that turned violent.
“NYPD Cop attacked in the Bronx. I guess the critics will now say he overreacted. NYPD Cops defend yourselves, you are alone!” the SBA wrote alongside the footage on Twitter.

New York City has seen looting, assaults, and the destruction of property since last week. Police officers have been targeted with Molotov cocktail attacks, and an officer was hit in the head with a brick while another was struck by a car in the Bronx.
Riots and protests have spread to nearly every major city across the county as people show outrage over the death of Floyd in police custody. Floyd died after now-fired Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin held his knee on Floyd’s neck while he communicated that he wasn’t able to breathe. Chauvin was fired last week and charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.
Three other officers that were involved with Floyd’s arrest were fired but not charged.
Floyd’s family has called for an end to the riots and only for peaceful protests.
“Don’t tear up your town. All of this is not necessary because if his own family and blood is not doing it, then why are you?” Terrence Floyd, Floyd’s younger brother, said. “If his own family and blood are trying to deal with it and be positive about it and go another route to seek justice, then why are you out here tearing up your community? Because when you’re finished and turn around and want to go buy something, you done tore it up. So now, you messed up your own living arrangements. So just relax. Justice will be served.”
