Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch will replace Justice Anthony Kennedy at the 9th Circuit Judicial Conference on Monday.

Kennedy was expected to speak about "civics education" with the director and producer of the musical "Hamilton" on Monday and participate in a "Conversation with the Justice" later this week. Kennedy canceled after his wife slipped and broker her hip in Salzburg, Austria, where he was teaching at a summer program. She is expected to make a full recovery.

Gorsuch, the newest member of the high court and a former Kennedy clerk, will replace Kennedy at Monday's programs, and is set to speak to new citizens at a naturalization ceremony.

"We want to thank Justice Gorsuch for so graciously agreeing to participate in our conference, particularly on such short notice," said 9th Circuit Chief Judge Sidney Thomas in a statement. "Justice Kennedy and his wife, Mary, will be missed, and all of us send them our best wishes."
