Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that he hoped the war would end as soon as possible, a remark made after Chinese leaders have avoided condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“We hope to see fighting and the war stop as soon as possible,” Wang said in a conference call with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, according to the state-owned China Central Television. Wang also called for all parties involved to calm down and do all they can to prevent escalation, the outlet reported.
