The White House says it will not be discussing curfews and curbs on domestic travel with governors as tactics to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus.
President Trump is scheduled to talk to governors by video teleconference on Monday morning as they step up the nationwide response to COVID-19.
He declared a national emergency on Friday, but that has not stopped demands for a more coordinated effort across the country.
But a senior administration official denied reports that the plans included sweeping restrictions on travel.
“There is nothing on domestic travel, nothing on curfews,” said the official who was in a meeting of the White House coronavirus task force on Monday morning.
Vice President Mike Pence said over the weekend that he and the president would brief governors “specifically about our expanding testing to the American people.” He also said the federal government would release updated guidance on restaurants, bars, and other public venues.
Several states have already ordered bars and restaurants to close to help slow the advance of the virus.
