British broadcaster Piers Morgan said he stands by his comments casting doubt on claims that Meghan Markle made during her recent sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey.
“On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t,” Morgan tweeted Wednesday, accompanied by a photo and quote from Winston Churchill. “If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.”

Sky News also published a video of Morgan doubling down on his criticisms.
His comments come after it was announced that he parted ways with Good Morning Britain, following him storming off the set of the show earlier this week over pushback on his criticisms of Prince Harry’s wife.

Markle revealed during the interview with Winfrey that she contemplated suicide while serving as a working royal, and she claimed that Buckingham Palace had “concerns” about how dark her son’s skin would be.
Morgan cast doubt on her statements this week, saying, “I don’t believe a word she says.”
“I wouldn’t believe her if she read me a weather report,” he added.
The Office of Communications, Britain’s broadcasting regulator, subsequently launched an investigation under its “harm and offense” rules over the comments. Markle’s representatives also reportedly filed a “formal complaint” on her behalf with U.K. broadcaster ITV.

Morgan’s departure from Good Morning Britain was announced later on Tuesday.
“Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain,” the company said in a statement. “ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”
