Congress will move to defund Planned Parenthood as it repeals Obamacare, House Speaker Paul Ryan confirmed Thursday.
A measure repealing big parts of the Affordable Care Act will include a provision that effectively blocks the women's health and abortion provider from receiving Medicaid reimbursements for non-abortion services. Planned Parenthood stands to lose about 30 percent of its funding if the defunding measure passes Congress and is signed by President-elect Trump.
Republicans included Planned Parenthood defunding in an Obamacare repeal bill it passed last year, which President Obama vetoed. Anti-abortion groups have pushed to keep that provision in the repeal bill being considered now.
Planned Parenthood, which is the country's largest abortion provider but also provides healthcare services including birth control and screenings, has started a nationwide effort to raise awareness about the attacks by Republicans.
