Singapore Airlines to launch world’s longest commercial flight route

Singapore Airlines is re-introducing its nearly 19-hour nonstop flight service from New York to Singapore.

The carrier said the route from Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey, one of three major New York metro airports, to the southeast Asian country is the world’s longest commercial flight. It will run three days a week beginning Oct. 11, with daily operations beginning later that month. The company will be the first to use the new Airbus A350-900 Ultra Long Range jetliner that includes 67 business class seats and 94 premium seats.

“Singapore Airlines has always taken pride in pushing the boundaries to provide the best possible travel convenience for our customers, and we are pleased to be leading the way with these new non-stop flights,” Chief Executive Officer Goh Choon Phong said in a statement.

The airline canceled its previous Newark-Singapore route in 2013. It is also planning to launch non-stop Singapore-Los Angeles flights with the same Airbus aircraft.
