Fox Business host: ‘No way on God’s green Earth’ a socialist can beat Trump

Fox Business host Stuart Varney dismissed Sen. Bernie Sanders’s strong poll numbers and performances in early voting states as he seeks the Democratic presidential nomination.

“There’s no way on God’s green Earth,” Varney said to Fox & Friends on Tuesday, that “a socialist will beat President Trump in an election. It’s not gonna happen.”

Varney said Sanders is on track to win the nomination but will lose “many, many” states if he goes head-to-head against the president.

“If Bernie Sanders goes head-to-head with Donald Trump in November, Bernie Sanders will lose many, many states. He’ll lose to Trump,” Varney said, adding the prediction that Republicans “will keep control of the Senate” and “flip the House.”

Varney also pointed out a recent trend of Trump rallies being attended by a significant number of Democrats, independents, and people who didn’t vote in 2016.

“Let’s not forget 20% of the people that go to these massive Trump rallies are Democrats,” Varney said when asked if some centrists might feel alienated by Bernie.

Sanders leads all of his Democratic challengers according to national polling released this week. Some polls also show him ahead of Trump in a hypothetical general election matchup.

“I don’t go for all these polls that say Bernie is ahead of Trump in head-to-head matchups,” Varney said. “I just don’t believe it.”

Sanders will join his fellow Democratic contenders on the debate stage in South Carolina Tuesday night ahead of the Palmetto State’s primary on Saturday. Sanders is polling in second place in the state, well behind former Vice President Joe Biden.
