Trump doctor says coronavirus-stricken president has been ‘symptom-free’ for more than a day

President Trump continues to get better nearly a week after he tested positive for COVID-19, according to his doctor.

Dr. Sean Conley, who has overseen treatment of the president during his three-night stay at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and his return to the White House, said in a statement on Wednesday afternoon that Trump has “been fever-free for more than four days” and that he has been symptom-free for more than a day.

The White House physician also noted that the president’s “physical exam and vital signs, including oxygen saturation and respiratory rate, all remain in stable and in normal range.”

In addition, Conley said the president has not received “any supplemental oxygen since [his] initial hospitalization” and developed detectable levels of coronavirus antibodies as of Monday.

The president has received multiple doses of the antiviral drug remdesivir while at Walter Reed. Since testing positive for COVID-19, Trump has also been given dexamethasone, a steroid that has been shown to be beneficial in severe cases of COVID-19, an experimental polyclonal antibody cocktail, zinc, vitamin D, famotidine, melatonin, and aspirin.

According to the physician, the president has improved since he returned to the White House from Walter Reed on Monday evening. Trump has been very active on Twitter, too, since returning to the White House.

Trump has been heavily criticized for his cavalier attitude toward the coronavirus, even after he tested positive for COVID-19, as members of his inner circle and others have also contracted the virus. Among them are White House staffers, reporters, campaign officials, and members of Congress as well as those who helped prepare him for last week’s presidential debate against Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
