Maryland police searching for cyclist who accosted people posting signs saying ‘use your privilege for good’

Maryland police are searching for a man who was filmed accosting people who were posting signs in support of George Floyd.

Maryland-National Capital Park Police asked for help in identifying a cyclist who was wearing an orange bike helmet, sunglasses, gray shirt, and black shorts during the incident that took place Monday afternoon on the Capital Crescent Trail in Bethesda, Maryland, near Washington, D.C.

A man and two women were walking the trail, posting flyers calling for justice for Floyd, an unarmed black man who died after a white police officer knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes, when the suspect confronted them, according to police.

“KILLER COPS WILL NOT GO FREE,” the flyer said in all capital letters, according to the group. Underneath it said, “Text ‘Floyd’ to 55156.” In small print below, in an apparent reference to white privilege, it added: “DO NOT LIVE IN IGNORANCE. USE YOUR PRIVILEGE FOR GOOD.”

The suspect was filmed approaching a young girl despite cries from a woman and a man to stay away from the girl. The suspect ripped a roll of tape off the girl’s wrist.

The cyclist then charged the man filming the encounter, causing him to fall to the ground.

Police described the suspect as a 50-year-old to 60-year-old white male, medium build, 6 feet in height, with short brown hair.
