Trump: Spies in my campaign would be ‘bigger than Watergate’

President Trump said Thursday that if unverified reports that the FBI had a mole inside his presidential campaign are confirmed, it would be a scandal to rival the greatest U.S. political scandal in the last century.

“Wow, word seems to be coming out that the Obama FBI ‘SPIED ON THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN WITH AN EMBEDDED INFORMANT,'” Trump tweeted. “Andrew McCarthy says, ‘There’s probably no doubt that they had at least one confidential informant in the campaign.’ If so, this is bigger than Watergate!”

Trump also sarcastically congratulated America on Thursday for entering the second year of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into alleged Russian collusion with Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.

“Congratulations America, we are now into the second year of the greatest Witch Hunt in American History…and there is still No Collusion and No Obstruction,” Trump said on Twitter Thursday morning. “The only Collusion was that done by Democrats who were unable to win an Election despite the spending of far more money!”

Trump has maintained for the last year that there was no collusion between him or members of his team and Russia, and has repeatedly called the investigation a “witch hunt.”

Mueller’s investigation has led to some indictments against Russian companies and individuals, as well as a case against Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen. But Trump has insisted that he had no meaningful contact with Russian officials, and made no effort to work with Russia to defeat Clinton.

Instead, Trump has said the Russia probe is a result of shocked Democrats who are still looking for excuses for Hillary Clinton’s surprise loss to Trump in 2016.
