Kerry Washington will sell you a Sprinkles cupcake

Actress Kerry Washington is tapped into the cupcake craze. On Saturday the actress, who’s starring in Shonda Rhimes’ forthcoming D.C.-based series “Scandal” (more about that later), will be at the Sprinkles in Georgetown selling red velvet cupcakes for the charity Americans for the Arts. “I’m just going to kind of hang out on Saturday and meet some fans of Sprinkles, and fans of Americans for the Arts and maybe one or two fans of Kerry Washington, and have a good time,” she explained. In “Scandal,” Washington says her familiarity with politics and D.C. has come in handy. Washington’s character is loosely based on Judy Smith, who worked for Bush 41 before going into crisis public relations (and also is a producer on the show). “I think for Judy she felt like she was trying to teach me molecular biology and I had already majored in at least biology … she wasn’t starting with a fifth grader,” Washington said.

The actress will appear at Sprinkles on Saturday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
