Tennessee Titans close facilities after cluster of positive COVID-19 tests

Extra safety precautions are being taken this week after players and staff members on two NFL teams tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

The Tennessee Titans will close their facility until Saturday, and the Minnesota Vikings called off in-person training on Tuesday after three players and two staff members for the Titans tested positive for the virus following their game on Sunday.

“Out of the abundance of caution, the organization has decided to work remotely today as we follow NFL protocols related to the COVID-19 virus,” the statement from the Titans read. “Several tests have come back positive and are working through the process of confirming them.”

The Vikings reported no positive coronavirus tests on Tuesday morning and will reassess opening practice as more tests are conducted throughout the week. The NFL is monitoring the two teams ahead of this weekend’s set of games.

“All decisions will be made with health and safety as our primary consideration,” read a statement from the league. “We will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.”

The NFL said in a statement that the league is working with the Titans and Vikings to “evaluate close contacts, perform additional testing and monitor developments … with health and safety as our primary consideration.”

The Titans’ scheduled game against the Pittsburgh Steelers this weekend has yet to be canceled.
