Dianne Feinstein fails to win endorsement from California Democratic Party

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., failed to clinch the California Democratic Party’s endorsement at its annual convention Saturday as she campaigns for her fifth term in the Senate.

This marks the first time Feinstein has been unable to get that important endorsement since her tenure began in the Senate in 1994, the Associated Press reported.

By not earning this seal of approval from the party, Feinstein will also not be receiving the extra campaign cash to assist in the lead up to the June primary election. However, even without that additional money, Feinstein has millions of dollars in her campaign fund.

Delegates who voted not to support her as a candidate for 2018 said the 84-year-old senator has been in Congress too long, and criticized her for not standing up or immigrants.

Many Democratic activists are backing Feinstein’s primary challenger Kevin de Leon. But even he failed to earn the 60 percent support needed for an endorsement from the state party.
