Pelosi just got Boehned

Nancy Pelosi began her second speakership in one of the politically strongest positions in recent history. After two years of Democrats breathlessly attempting to bait President Trump into a glaring public flameout, Pelosi declared an utter and humiliating victory over Trump without so much as blinking. She called Trump’s catastrophic government shutdown bluff, cajoling him into costing the American economy $11 billion in exchange for barely $1 billion for his “wall,” a mere fraction of what he demanded when he initiated the longest government shutdown in American history.

Trump’s approval ratings plummeted, but more importantly for Pelosi, the spotlight kept razor focus on the most embarrassing fold of his presidency. Pelosi seemed like the ice queen riding back into the House to save the Democrats from themselves.

But then she decided to play nice with the freshmen. That’s when the economically illiterate, anti-Semitic, uncouth tail began to wag the dog.

Six weeks ago, the Democratic Party as led by Pelosi had the opportunity to serve as the sane, free-trade, norm-respecting, and dignified opposition to one of the messiest presidencies of the century. But since the end of the shutdown showdown, Democrats have done nothing right. They embraced late-late-term abortion, voted against guaranteeing medical care to babies actually born alive, backed the $93 trillion Green New Deal and Medicare for All en masse, and now refuse to condemn the unrepentent and relentless anti-Semitism of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.

Democrats spent Thursday flailing to add as many aggrieved groups to their sham of an anti-hate resolution as possible. It began as a resolution to repudiate Omar’s anti-Semitism, but by the end it was deliberately diluted as much as possible so as to salve her feelings of and even embolden further anti-Semitic rhetoric in the future. Pelosi went from taking a real stand to offering a fig leaf to the Corbynite crybabies who now rule her party.

And no, Pelosi isn’t in charge anymore. She just got Boehned. Not even old Speaker John Boehner got burned this badly by populist furor when the Tea Party blew up the Republican agenda.

Late-term abortion? Just 13 percent of Americans support legalizing it, including fewer than one in five Democrats do.

“Medicare for all”? Barely more than a third of the nation supports it when told that it will in fact eliminate private health insurance. Seven in 10 Americans oppose it when told it’ll inevitably lead to delays in people getting some medical tests and treatments.

The Green New Deal? Yeah, that’ll cost you a bit, at least $93 trillion in the first decade. Its biggest backers plan to pay for it by printing money, which tells you just how serious they are as policy-makers.

And now obliterating the Democratic alliance with Israel just to stand by a newfangled socialist superstar? Less than 20 percent of Americans sympathize with Palestine over Israel, which has the backing of the overwhelming majority of the country.

“Pelosi’s floor speech on this resolution seems to be a lot more concerned with Trump than anti-Semitism,” Nate Madden of The Blaze reported as the resolution fracas continued. Of course it did. She screwed up royally in letting her rabid and hysterical base take one second of airtime from Trump, depriving him of the oxygen to create his own scandals and throwing the most inept of the Democrats into the limelight instead.

So no, I’m not shocked in the slightest that Pelosi pontificated about Trump. As she suffers a mess of her own creation, she must miss him.
