Pelosi on Beto O’Rourke’s signature accomplishment: He ‘brought a great deal of vitality to Congress’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., praised 2020 presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke for bringing “vitality” to Congress when asked what his “signature accomplishment” was as a House member.

“Beto brought a great deal of vitality to Congress,” Pelosi said. “When he came, he came as a real champion for the environment. He got a great deal of support for the environmental community in his district.”

Pelosi also called O’Rourke a “strong member of the Armed Services Committee.”

Pelosi said O’Rourke is a “welcome addition” to the field of presidential candidates, after he served three terms in the House. He represented the 16th district in Texas, and then unsuccessfully challenged Republican Sen. Ted Cruz last year.

“Preserving our planet and protecting our people,” Pelosi said, were “at least two areas, in addition to his vitality, in so many other ways,” where O’Rourke made an impact while serving in the House.

Pelosi gave out some advice to the growing field of the now more than one dozen Democrats seeking to win the White House.

“Just be yourself, show them what you believe in, show them what’s in your heart,” Pelosi said.
