Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney may represent opposite political parties but they both agree that Donald Trump is “a phony” and “a fraud.”
Reaching into the archive of Romney tweets, on Wednesday the Clinton campaign retweeted a March 3 tweet from the former Massachusetts governor and GOP nominee saying, “Here’s what I know. Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud. His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University.”

The retweet comes as the Clinton campaign renews focus on the allegations against Trump University following Tuesday’s New York Times expose on the presumptive GOP nominee’s failed business venture. The Clinton campaign tweeted out various parts of stories describing the university as a “scam” and “repulsive.” Clinton’s campaign spokesman Brian Fallon argued that Trump University is a “metaphor for [Trump’s] whole campaign” as both are completely “based on lies.”
“The gist: Trump’s for-profit university deceived & exploited students to take their money,” Clinton subsequently tweeted. “And he has the gall to call the media ‘sleazy.'”
Romney gave a pointed speech attempting to dissuade Republicans from nominating Trump at the time of his original tweet, but it did not do much to alter the state of the race. Although he still identifies as Republican, Romney refuses to support Trump, and he recently tweeted that he “looks forward” to hearing from potential third party candidate David French.
