Firefighter charged with driving fire truck drunk

A Loudoun County volunteer firefighter is facing drunken-driving charges after taking his company’s truck on a joy ride. The sheriff’s office said Sean Richard Swanson, 27, a volunteer at a Hamilton fire company, was arrested after taking a fire truck out late Friday night. The sheriff’s office says four other volunteers in the county’s fire and rescue system were also in the truck at the time.

A Loudoun County deputy, who was traveling in the opposite direction, had to swerve his car into a ditch in order to avoid a head-on collision with the truck, law enforcement officials said.

After the fire truck was pulled over, field sobriety tests were given. Swanson was then charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and driving under the influence.
