San Francisco mayor slams Elon Musk for snubbing California and moving Tesla to Texas

San Francisco Mayor London Breed has lashed out at Elon Musk over Tesla’s relocation to Texas, calling him “part of the problem” regarding the city’s struggles with blight.

As crime and cost of living have skyrocketed along with businesses leaving the area, the once-dazzling city has become among the least hospitable places to live. Only 4% of the nation’s cities are more dangerous, Neighborhood Scout reported.

Musk left two years ago, citing a better standard of living while San Francisco continued to deteriorate as the streets became open drug dens with accompanying homelessness under District Attorney Chesa Boudin’s no-prosecution policy.

“My hope is that those who are critical would focus on trying to be a part of the solution rather than part of the problem,” Breed told Bloomberg.

She acknowledged that safety has been a problem due to retaining and recruiting police officers. The city had adopted a “defund the police” mindset after the death of George Floyd, causing an exodus of officers. Breed reversed this policy when she took office, but the damage had been done.

“What we have to do is demonstrate, and people have to feel, that transportation is going to be clean, safe, and reliable, and we have to demonstrate that when people are out on the streets, they’re going to be safe,” she said.

As for Musk, Breed took issue with the tycoon taking state tax breaks and then fleeing the area.

“You mean the person who got a ton of tax breaks in California and decided to take that money and run?” she said.

Musk has bashed California during the years leading up to his departure, hinting that he would leave unless the business climate got better. That did not happen. He summed up his feelings in an interview with the Babylon Bee when asked about his former home.

“California used to be the land of opportunity. Now it has become and is becoming more so the land of overregulation, overlitigation, overtaxation and scorn,” he said.
