Hillary Clinton backed President Obama’s military response in Syria wholeheartedly Wednesday, a shift from some recent disagreements with her former boss on foreign policy.
During a panel discussion in New York, Clinton called the U.S. airstrikes in Syria against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria a “robust response,” according to CNN.
Clinton also dismissed any previous disagreements she has had with President Obama on what to do in Syria, saying he gave a “very clear explanation and robust defense of the action he has ordered.”
In the past, Clinton has urged President Obama to arm Syrian rebels and disagreed with his decision not to do so. Last month in an interview, she called the administration’s lack of engagement in Syria a “failure.”
“I can’t sit here today and tell you that if we had done what I had recommended we would be in a very different position. I just can’t,” Clinton said.
The panel was at her own Clinton Global Initiative to how children’s brains develop. CNN host Dr. Sanjay Gupta started the panel discussion first with questions on Syria for Clinton, who is eyeing a 2016 presidential run.
Clinton leads the potential field of Democratic presidential nominees by 54 points, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls.
