Judge rules Trump must testify after protesters file lawsuit alleging security guard assaulted them

A New York judge has ordered President Trump to submit video testimony before trial begins in a case related to his security team allegedly assaulting protesters in 2015.

Judge Doris M. Gonzalez called Trump’s testimony “indispensable” to the trial slated to begin on Thursday, according to CNN.

The case stems from a lawsuit filed by five protesters who say Trump’s security team assaulted two of them outside of Trump Tower in New York City. The two protesters wore mock Ku Klux Klan outfits to protest then-candidate Trump’s stance and rhetoric on immigration issues.

The lawsuit names Trump, his campaign, his company, and his security chief Keith Schiller. The protesters were outside of Trump Tower carrying signs that said, “Trump: Make America Racist Again.” The plaintiffs say that Schiller began forcefully taking the signs from them, and when one protester tried to get the signs back, Schiller hit him in the head.

In his testimony, Schiller said the protesters were a threat to public safety and had already interfered with an ambulance team trying to get into the building. Schiller does not deny hitting one of the men but says the man ran up behind him, and Schiller thought the protester was going for his gun.
