Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s wife said Monday that she has no reason to believe sexual assault allegations against him, and said they are not consistent with who he is.
“I know Brett,” she said in an interview with Fox News. “I’ve know him for 17 years. And this is not at all in character. It’s really hard to believe.”
“He’s decent, he’s kind, he’s good,” she said. “I know his heart. This is not consistent with, with Brett.”
Both Ashley and her husband declined to say what might have motivated two women to claim the nominee sexually assaulted women in high school and college.
“I don’t know what happened to her, and I don’t even want to go there,” she said. “I feel badly for her family. I feel badly for her through this process.”
Ashley Kavanaugh also said the process has been tough on her children.
“It’s very difficult to have these conversations with your children, which we’ve had to have,” she said. “They know Brett, and they know the truth, and we told them at the very beginning of this process, this will not be fun sometimes.”

Kavanaugh and one of his accusers, Christine Blasey Ford, will testify at the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday about her allegations that he tried to rape her when he was 17 and she was 15.
The nominee said he was a virgin through high school, and said he never engaged in any of the activities alleged by his accusers.
