Media hype: Networks all in to push ‘Climate March’

The TV networks were clearly showing their green this weekend, giving the “People’s Climate March” in New York nearly five times the coverage of the biggest annual march in Washington, the anti-abortion “March for Life.”

The Business and Media Institute found that the Big Three gave the socialist event four-and-a-half times more airtime than the January March for Life.

The conservative media watchdog said the Climate March gobbled up three minutes and 27 seconds of coverage. The March for Life, which attracted thousands despite frigid temperatures, got just 46 seconds from all three networks.

A number of media and Hollywood stars who attended the New York march probably helped drive the coverage. TV showed shots of actor Mark Ruffalo and climate activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The group noted that the networks played along with the march theme by hyping warming weather conditions. But, said the Institute:

Nothing was said on any of the network news’ programs about how far people traveled by fossil fuel guzzling cars or airplanes to march in New York City on Sept. 21. The hypocrisy of expending massive amounts of greenhouse gases in order to call for an end to fossil fuels was ignored, although green celebrity Al Gore and the UN’s Ban-Ki Moon were both mentioned by name on Nightly News.
