Daily Blog Buzz: More Troop Hating from CA

Today, bloggers are buzzing about another disgusting episode in the California Hates the Troops Files. On September 28, OC Blog reported:

On September 27th 204 Marines and soldiers who were returning from Iraq were not allowed into the passenger terminal at Oakland International Airport. Instead they had to deplane about 400 yards away from the terminal where the extra baggage trailers were located… The trip started in Kuwait on September 26th with a rigorous search of checked and carry on baggage by US Customs. All baggage was x-rayed with a “backscatter” machine AND each bag was completely emptied and hand searched. After being searched, checked bags were marked and immediately placed in a secure container. Carry on bags were then x rayed again to ensure no contraband items were taken on the plane. While waiting for the bus to the airport, all personnel were in quarantined in a fenced area and were not allowed to leave…

Completely outrageous, California. The above quote is taken from an email from a family member of one of the mistreated soldiers. Of course, a Daily Kos blogger immediately said it was fake, without any evidence, and remains defensive even though the email was confirmed as true by Michelle Malkin. Malkin has been following the story the past few days, and was on Fox News this morning to discuss the incident. Hopefully, the rest of the country can be alerted to California’s terrible history of mistreating our troops. Michael Ledeen at NRO also picked up the story early. John Gibson at Fox News notes: “This smacks of the bad old days in the Bay Area when returning Vietnam vets were spat upon. Some high-ranking military person should make sure it never happens again. Our Iraq vets should be welcome anywhere and everywhere.” Fortunately, he also details a kind woman on a flight from Phoenix to San Antonio who gives up her first-class seat to a soldier in coach. Today, Wolf at Blackfive asked, “When will SOMEONE put the brakes on California?” and notes: “I own an airline–I understand what restrictions, regulations, and procedures are necessary for security. NOTHING that went on here was insurmountable at the airport to deny these gentlemen (and ladies, I assume) access to the terminal.” And Jonathan at OC Blog has some interesting updates from TSA, Hilltop Aviation (the charter flight company), and the airport itself, but nobody will take the blame. He says, “Someone should ultimately take the responsibility for this incident. It’s morally abhorrent to leave out Marines 400 yards away from the terminal and prohibit them from receiving civilized treatment (getting refreshments, going to the bathroom, and meeting with family).” He is trying to get in touch with the charter flight company to see if someone can take responsibility. And other interesting news from Oakland… Hillary Clinton was welcomed with open arms in this California city…and the Oakland mayor Ron Dellums endorsed her. Do I detect a trend?
