Harvey Weinstein will post a $2 million insurance bond after prosecutors say he violated his bond agreement dozens of times within two months.
Weinstein appeared in the New York State Supreme Court on Wednesday for a bond hearing, according to Bloomberg. Weinstein, a movie producer, arrived shuffling with assistance from a walker. He is awaiting trial on multiple charges of sexual assault.
New York State Supreme Court Justice James Burke approved a request from prosecutors to increase Weinstein’s bond from $1 million after Weinstein’s ankle monitor lost its tracking signal 57 times in less than two months. Weinstein’s attorney Donna Rotunno argued that her 67-year-old client did not disable his tracker but the device malfunctioned.
Prosecutors say the wealthy movie mogul is a flight risk. They allege that Weinstein has a vast reserve of resources from selling off expensive New York properties and often travels by private jet.
Rotunno said that Weinstein flies on private jets because his ankle monitor is uncomfortable and forces him to face extra security screenings if he flies commercial. Rotunno also said that the money Weinstein made by selling his properties was dispersed between his two ex-wives and his children.
Weinstein has denied the allegations of sexual misconduct, harassment, and assault against roughly 70 women. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges for which he awaits trial, set for Jan. 6.
