Hillary Clinton avoided saying Tuesday whether the FBI had reached out to interview her as part of an investigation into her use of a private email server as secretary of state.
Rather than answer a question about whether she had “been contacted by the FBI about an interview regarding the email situation,” Clinton said that she did not have an interview scheduled with the law enforcement agency.
“No, we do not have an interview scheduled,” Clinton said, and emphasized that using a private email was allowed.
“The report makes clear that personal email use was the practice under other secretaries of state, and the rules were not clarified until after I had left,” Clinton said. “But as I said many times, Chris, it was still a mistake. If I could go back, I would do it differently.”
The FBI has already interviewed some of Clinton’s closest aides as part of the probe.
Despite insisting that she was “more than ready to talk to anybody anytime” in May, however, Clinton refused to grant interviews to a State Department watchdog which concluded that she broke federal rules with her homebrew server.
