Sen. Joe Manchin can’t seem to avoid criticism when it comes to the spending bill.
The Democrat from West Virginia was heckled on his way out of an Economic Club of Washington meeting on Tuesday at the Capital Hilton. Manchin is known for his centrist political views.
“You are standing against everything I need to have a livable future,” the protester said, apparently referring to the Build Back Better infrastructure deal’s climate initiatives. “I have dreams. Young people have dreams, and if the United States does not pass the massive climate option this fall, it is too late.”
‘BULLS***’: JOE MANCHIN DISMISSES REPORT HE’S CONSIDERING LEAVING DEMOCRATIC PARTY
As Democrats push to pass the legislation, they are amending its components to satisfy more centrist members of their party. The cost was originally about $3.5 trillion, but after a number of cuts, it’s been estimated at $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion.
Those cuts include free community college and likely a clean electricity standard.
Manchin squashed rumors that he was thinking about leaving the Democratic Party altogether, calling them “bulls***” on Oct. 20. Had that happened, the Democrats’ slight Senate majority would be in jeopardy.
The protester was seated in a wheelchair and held a yellow and black sign that read, “Hunger striking for my community.”

“Joe Manchin, I’m talking to you right now,” she said, yelling “I want to live” as the senator walked away.
