Avocados are a small fruit for all the big problems they allegedly cause. Last month, real estate millionaire Tim Gurner said that millennials can’t buy houses because they blow their money on avocado toast and coffee.
So are millennials obsessed with avocados? It seems so from social media pictures of avocado lattes, boats, and ice cream. But things are not as they appear according to a new poll.
The Huffington Post and Yougov survey debunks the millennial-avocado stereotype, and points to another generation for the the craze. Millennials actually polled as the least likely to love the alligator pear.
38 percent of those ages 30-to-44 said they “love” the fruit, versus just 28 percent of those under age 30.
So, millennials are not the avocado-eyed generation. 35 percent of those older than 30-years old say they love avocados.
Most millennials also don’t blow their home savings on a fruit spread over bread. 65 percent of under-30s have never seen avocado toast offered on a menu, and only six percent have ordered it. 10 percent of those 30-to-45 have splurged on the snack in stores.
In fact, millennials are more likely to save money while still indulging. 14 percent of younger Americans have made the snack at home, and the same number have forgone it at a restaurant.
Millennials have been blamed for everything from trashing the napkin industry to ruining the Mcdonald’s McWrap, but the numbers don’t lie — millennials are not obsessed with avocados.
So shove that on your toast and spread it.
