Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called the Donald Trump’s recent foreign policy speech “quite concerning” in her first interview on the topic since the New York businessman spoke in Washington, D.C., earlier this week.
“I’ve certainly read about it and I think it’s quite concerning,” Clinton told CNN Friday afternoon.
The front-running Democratic presidential candidate criticized Trump’s vows to get results in the war against terrorism and achieve peace because he did not share details about the logistics of his plan during the Wednesday address.
“I don’t think loose talks about loose nukes, I don’t think turning our backs on our strongest ally, I don’t think pretending you have some sort of secret plan is a very smart way to go forward in leading the world,” Clinton finished.
The former top diplomat also criticized Trump’s desire to pull out of North Atlantic Treaty Organization, saying it would kill Congress’ 70 years of work to create the current national security policies.
But her biggest area of disagreement with Trump was over the little information he has shared, even after saying the speech was meant to lay out more of his foreign policy strategy.
“His idea that he has a secret plan to get rid of [the Islamic State] that he’s not going to tell anybody — I found it disturbing,” Clinton said.
