Prominent Democrats such as Howard Dean and others have been urging their followers to boycott products made by the Koch brothers such as Brawny towels to protest the Citizens United decision and their political donations.
The anti-Koch narrative was especially prominent following Wisconsin Scott Walker’s victory when DNC chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz falsely claimed that the Koch brothers’ donations were responsible for the Democrats’ loss.
Yet interestingly enough, some of the top celebrity donors to the Democratic National Committee and to Democratic candidates seem to be quite fond of the Koch brother’s products and use Koch materials in a number of their fashion designs.
Fashion designer Calvin Klein, a frequent donor to the DNC and to Democratic politicians, having donated just under $290,000 to Democratic campaigns and political action committees over the past two decades seems to have no problem using Koch brothers’ products.
Klein’s company uses Lycra, a type of spandex fiber made by Invista, a Koch-owned company, in a number of his company’s products including Calvin Klein Jeans.
The fashion designer hosted a June 2008 fundraiser for the Obama campaign with Michelle Obama in conjunction with Vogue editor Anne Wintour.
Michelle Obama is often seen wearing Calvin Klein clothing at high profile events, including the President Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize presentation ceremony.
Fashion designer Michael Kors has a similar love of donating to the Democratic Party and for using Lycra. The material is found in many products produced by his company, but a corporate spokesperson declined to tell Red Alert Politics just how much it spends on the Koch brothers product.
Kors recently attended an Obama fundraiser at Sarah Jessica Parker’s New York apartment. Kors donated $40,000 to the Obama re-election effort to attend the event.
His company has donated just over $110,000 to Democrats over the past decade.
