Former FBI lawyer Lisa Page said Attorney General William Barr is unbound by institutional norms that preserve the rule of law.
During an appearance on MSNBC, Page, who has been subject to scrutiny for years after exchanging anti-Trump messages with colleague Peter Strzok, blasted Barr for his conduct working in the Trump administration.
“I think what’s more important to recognize here is how fragile the rule of law is, how much it depends on norms and the exercise of restraint. And what you see here is the exact opposite of that,” Page began.
“You’ve seen an attorney general who doesn’t feel bound by the norms that his predecessors have, who’s willing to mischaracterize the conclusions of the Mueller report, who’s willing to overturn four career prosecutors in a sentencing determination, who’s willing to withdraw a plea by somebody who, you know, in the case of Michael Flynn, plead twice based on a cooperation agreement,” Page said.
Earlier this week, Page took to Twitter to attack President Trump as “monstrous” and “despicable” after protesters were dispersed near the White House by law enforcement officers who used pepper balls and chemical irritants so that Trump could walk to St. John’s Episcopal Church for a photograph.
“Yesterday, our monstrous, despicable president assaulted Americans engaged in peaceful protest for a photo op. He could be reelected. I wrote a few mean texts four years ago and have been rained down with insults and attacks ever since. But I’m the f—ing coup plotter. Got it,” Page wrote in a tweet on Tuesday.

In April 2019, Mueller released his long-awaited report on Russian interference, with redactions, showing his team did not find evidence of criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia. However, Mueller did find substantial evidence that Russian actors actively attempted to influence the election and he laid out 10 instances of possible instances of obstruction of justice.
U.S. Attorney John Durham, who was appointed by Attorney General William Barr, is looking into the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation.
