Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed in an interview that he would have run for president this year if he were a natural born citizen of the United States.
“If I’d been born in America, I would’ve run,” Schwarzenegger told Adweek. “Because now? This was a very good time to get in the race.”
Schwarzenegger, who is set to take the reigns of “The Apprentice” in January, has been an outspoken critic of Trump. He announced that he would not vote for the GOP nominee in the wake of a release of a video showing Trump making lewd and inappropriate remarks about women on a hot microphone 11 years ago.
“For the first time since I became a citizen in 1983, I will not vote for the Republican candidate for president,” Schwarzenegger said in a statement. “As proud as I am to label myself a Republican, there is one label that I hold above all else: American. So I want to take a moment today to remind my fellow Republicans that it is not only acceptable to choose your country over your party — it is your duty.”
Schwarzenegger was a supporter of Ohio Gov. John Kasich during the GOP primary contest.
