New emails reveal Lois Lerner talked way too much smack about right wing on official phone

An email exchange between Lois Lerner and an unnamed individual made public Wednesday reveals that the former IRS official doesn’t care too much for talk radio.

The emails, released by the House Ways and Means Committee as part of its investigation into IRS targeting of tea party groups, were conversational and touched on a variety of topics, from Lerner’s pay to the goings on of her Nov. 2012 vacation, seemingly in the U.K. She wrote in one email that she overheard some people talking about how America has “bankrupted” itself and is “going down the tubes.” Her fellow correspondent responded with a crack about what certain individuals have been saying stateside.

“Well, you should hear the whacko wing of the GOP. The US is through; too many foreigners sucking the teat; time to hunker down, buy ammo and food, and prepare for the end,” the unnamed person wrote. “The right wing radio shows are scary to listen to.”

“Great. Maybe we are through if there are that many assholes,” Lerner wrote back. She also wrote in a subsequent email that such “crazies” are a bigger threat than “alien [terrorists]” to our livelihoods.

Committee chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich.) wrote in a letter to the Justice Department that the emails demonstrate more than just “Lerner’s deep animus towards conservatives.”

“This email shows that Ms. Lerner’s mistreatment of conservative groups was driven by her personal hostility toward conservatives,” the letter reads. “This new evidence clearly demonstrates why Ms. Lerner not only targeted conservatives, but denied such groups their rights to due process and equal protection under the law.”
