Poll: Clinton, Trump neck-and-neck in red state Arizona

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are virtually tied in Arizona, a state that usually votes Republican, according to to a new poll.

Clinton leads Trump, 35.1 percent to 33.5 percent, in a new Arizona Republic/Morrison/Cronkite News poll released Wednesday. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.

A whopping 22.9 percent remain undecided.


“I think that’s the big finding: There’s still the 20 percent out there who haven’t made up their minds,” Eric Hedberg, director of research for the Morrison Institute for Public Policy, said Wednesday.

Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson follows with 6.9 percent and Green Party candidate Jill Stein has 1.5 percent.

The last Democrat to win the Grand Canyon State was President Bill Clinton — Hillary Clinton’s husband — in 1996.

The telephone survey of 704 likely Arizona voters was conducted Aug. 17-31. It is the first major independent statewide political poll in Arizona this election cycle.
