People overwhelmingly view situation at border as a crisis and disapprove of Biden’s handling: Poll

An overwhelming majority of people say the situation at the border is a crisis and disapprove of the way President Joe Biden is handling it, a new poll shows.

Seventy-eight percent of people said they view the border situation as a crisis, compared to 19% who said it is not a crisis. Meanwhile, 65% of voters disapprove of Biden’s handling of the situation, compared to 29% who say they approve, according to the results of the new poll conducted by CNN.

UNPRECEDENTED BORDER CRISES OVERTAKE BIDEN’S FIRST 100 DAYS

The poll comes as the Biden administration continues to grapple with the surge in attempted illegal border crossings, with over 160,000 family units and 18,000 unaccompanied minors being apprehended at the border in March.

The Biden administration has been unwilling to call the situation at the border a crisis, preferring instead to refer to it as a “challenge.”

The border situation has also caused voters to lose faith in Biden’s overall immigration agenda, with 53% saying they disapprove of the way the president is handling immigration compared to 41% who say they approve.

Biden also received low marks for his handling of gun policy, with 51% of voters reporting they disapprove of the president’s gun policy compared to 40% who say they approve.

The poll wasn’t all bad news for Biden, who scored high approval marks with voters on issues such as his handling of the pandemic, environmental policy, racial injustice, the economy, taxes, and foreign affairs.

Biden’s overall approval numbers also ticked up, with 53% of voters saying they approve of the president’s overall job performance. That number was a 2 point increase from March, when 51% of voters said they approved of the president’s performance.

The poll questioned 1,004 respondents between April 21-26 and has a margin of error of 3.6 points.
