Sen. Mark Udall was heckled on Sunday by a Democratic donor angry at the campaign’s single-issue focus on abortion.
The Colorado Democrat was giving a speech on turning out the vote when he turned to women’s issues, a major focus of his campaign.
“I’m proud to stand for reproductive freedom,” he said.
At that point, an audience member shouted: “That’s not the only thing you stand for! Jesus Christ!”
After Udall responded, according to the Guardian, the heckler said: “That’s not the only thing you stand for!”
Leo Beserra, who according to Open Secrets has given thousands to Democratic campaigns and organizations in the 2014 cycle, later told the Guardian that he was “trying to figure out who in the hell decided this was how the campaign was supposed to go.”
“Who is running the worst campaign? Him. Because [f—ing] abortion is all he talks about,” Beserra said. “He should not talk about it any more whatsoever. There are so many other issues.”
Udall trails Rep. Cory Gardner by 2.5 points in the RealClearPolitics polling average.
