Democrats are set to pick up two more House seats after a three-judge panel approved a new congressional map drawn by the North Carolina state legislature.
The state court ruling ends a lawsuit first launched by an outside Democratic group led by former Attorney General Eric Holder, who wants the Republicans in the state house defeated so the Democrats can take control of the redistricting process in 2021.
The new map will likely shift the state delegation from a Republican-to-Democratic ratio of 10-3 to 8-5. The law moves the districts of Republican Reps. Mark Walker and George Holding to areas with overwhelmingly more registered Democrats.
The filing deadline to run for congressional seats in North Carolina began on Monday and goes through Dec. 20.
